Students were introduced to floor hockey where we practiced stick control and safety before continuing on to skill based activities and eventually small sided games in grades 4 and 5. Several 5th graders also completed their student-led lessons. Grades 3 and 4 added some simple line dances to their movement repertoire while early childhood students refined their understanding of games of low organization.

After finishing off the AirTrack unit before the winter holidays, students are now moving on to a soccer unit in the higher grade levels (3/4/5) and a ball control with feet unit for early childhood. During this unit, students in 3rd/4th and 5th grade will learn the basics of foot control, passing and how apply good movement in mini game situations. Early childhood will focus on individual skills, to help them become familiar with eye-foot control. When the students have lessons in the Activity Room they will have a chance to use jump ropes in a group, use Dynamic Movement Mats and some more gymnastic activities.

The students are now well versed in what our expectations are in the classroom and we are moving ahead with different hand-eye coordination skills. The higher grades are going to move onto basketball skills, including jump shots, layups and dribbling, trying to apply them in game situations. The higher grades will also begin gymnastics work on the airtrack, challenging and testing themselves often. Lower grades will be throwing over hand and begin to throw at targets, as well as some gymnastics activites nearer the end of the month.

September 2016
As we move into September groups will now have a greater understanding of our protocals and how to move around whilst in PE classes. This means we will be able to move onto more challenging tag and team building activities, as well as starting jump rope with 4th and 5th grade. The skills we will be looking at will be dodging and fleeing as well as continuing to develop greater teamwork in larger and larger groups. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will also complete a strengthening skills check up, this will allow us to track their progress through the year.

August 2016
As it is the start of the year, our main focus is on spatial awareness, teamwork and group bonding. Activities such as Stop and Go for Kindergarten and Grade 1 will help them gain an idea of what a safe space is. Grade 2 and 3 will continue this theme but with different types of locomotor movements, such as skipping and galloping. Grades 4 and 5 will begin with team building exercises as well as basic tag games. All lessons will emphasise the importance of working well in a group.
