In this game students play the classic partner game to decide who advances to the next cone and who goes back. We used strengthening moves in between the cones.
Students at all levels have been experimenting with elements of dance. From moving to the beat of a drum to following a video or creating original moves, students are learning how to use 8 counts and adapt to different rhythms.
Continuing our work in gymnastic skills, we’ve turned our attention to building balances in pairs and trios.
Sometimes we need to complete tasks that involve only tiny movements. Today, these guys built a huge stack of cups.... it stayed up too!
After two weeks off from school the 5th graders came back to PE and started the year with a team building activity. Here students had to “buy” objects to help them cross the gym without touching the floor. To “buy” objects, students had to complete challenges as such wall walks, push ups, plank. Then the students used their creativity to get across the room. Great activity... completed wonderfully by the students! How quickly time flies! Already at the end of the first trimester our students have made great strides, developed new skills and encountered plenty of challenge. The upper grades are moving through a basketball unit while primary and early childhood students are expanding their tossing, catching and throwing repertoires. There have also been some Awesome Gym Days celebrated and more to come. We’ve also introduced the Airtrack to all the Grade levels as part of our focus on gymnastics and body control. This link provides some video highlights. Enjoy! Technology affords is some new opportunities to help student improve their skills. We’ve begun using animated GIFs to demonstrate skills for students to evaluate. Below is a recent example.
As we move onto basketball and gymnastics.... here is a short video of 1st grade exploring an obstacle course. If they fall off the obstacle course they had to throw a ball into a tyre two timest, then they could rejoin the course |
