Follow the Leader is simple yet essential game in elementary PE. First, students need to find a partner or group. Then, as a group they need to organize themselves into a line. Specific directions require good listening comprehension and group members all practice being cooperative followers as well as kind leaders. To top it all off, students rehearse fundamental locomotor movements cheerfully in a playful and challenging way. The video shows kindergarten children playing follow the leader in pairs and trips. 5th grade started team building games today, their first challenge was Bridges. They completed the task with only 3 pieces of equipment and certainly worked well together! Well done all.
Students at every level learn a variety of exercises which help develop muscle flexibility (stretching) and muscle strength and power (strengthening). Most classes include both elements and become student-led in time. The video shows a kindergarten class learning some stretches and older student playing a game with animal walks. This short video shows some of our start of the year activities. Examples here are from grades 3, 5 and 2 (in order of appearance😃).At the start of the year students play several quick short partner and small group games. These allow students to get to know each other and our expectations through fun low-stakes activities. Below are pictures of kids playing the games 'same-opposite', mirror-mirror and shape shifters.
